Workshops and Presentations
With a background in creative writing, intersectional feminism, queer theory, and social justice education, along with goals to be an educator, Katie Hébert has much experience preparing educational and community-based presentations. She has spoken about a variety of topics and has presented at conferences around the country, including NACURH and the North-East Affiliate (NEACURH), as well as at her alma mater of SUNY Oneonta to the campus community. Collaborating with other Teaching Fellows to present to Manhattanville undergraduate community.

Virtual Writing Retreat (June 2020)
Presented a writing workshop through the Ayaskala Literary Magazine’s virtual writing retreat on poetic form and meter, and how to find your voice and rhythm within writing, both on the page and the stage.

Fabricated Bridges: Understanding Complexities within Community and Solidarity (February 2020)
Presented about the double-edged sword of shared identities and how to make communities more inclusive; alongside Sophia Monsalve at the Student Diversity and Leadership Conference.

An educational program of bisexuality, pansexuality, and other expansive sexualities; alongside GSRC colleague.

The Art of Storytelling Part II (April 2019)
Continuing on the original program with Emmanuel Woolard, this artistic space allowed a new group of artists to share their work in an open-mic format, while interviewing each other about their work and breaking down the barriers between artists and audiences. Presented alongside Emmanuel Woolard.

“The Gays Sure Know How to Party, right?” (April 2019)
Presented educational program on the history of party culture/substance abuse within LGBTQ+ spaces, and steps to find healthy, sober communities; alongside GSRC colleague.

Queer Sex Ed (November 2018)
Educational presentation to the SUNY Oneonta community on understanding sexual education beyond cis heteronormative relationships, presented alongside two GSRC colleagues.

Defining Queer (October 2018)
Presented a dialogue workshop for the SUNY Pride conference inspired by a discussion from WMST 365: Queer Migrations on the term “Queer” and how LGBTQ+ communities identify themselves.

Bye Bi-phobia! (March 2018)
Presented a program for the NEACURH Spring Leadership Conference about defining bisexuality and understanding how to support bisexual+ individuals and the community.

I Am Oneonta! (November 2017)
Alongside the Resident Student Organization Executive Board, I curated Hall Government Retreat for residential students inspired by and themed to the songs of Disney’s Moana, delegating important workshops and program ideas to specific songs from the movie.
I utilized I Am Moana to create a workshop on having school spirit and how to uplift and support your residence hall and campus community.

Foreign Languages Are A Whole New Level of Awesomeness! (May 2017)
Alongside Cristina Santos-Carvalho, we presented at the NACURH Annual Conference in 2017 at Purdue University the cultural, political, and personal importance of learning foreign languages. We were awarded Top 50 Program Award, for presenting one of the top 50 programs in the country.

Katie's Affinity: A Discovery Into Understanding Personal Feminisms (April 2017)
Guided by Melinda Q. Brennan, PhD., I presented at the 2017 Women’s and Gender Studies Symposium. Based on reading from Sarah Ahmed’s An Affinity of Hammers, and work done in Dr. Brennan’s Feminist Theories course, I used this work to discuss everyone’s personal limitations to supporting various movements.
